Shikhar Dhawan cut Hong Kong holiday short to score 190 in Galle Test cricket match

Shikhar Dhawan may have gotten out on 190, but he finds himself in the illustrious company of Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid and Azharuddin.

Mumbai: Shikhar Dhawan may have fallen short of his maiden Test double ton by 10 runs, but for is father, it was the southpaw’s 190 against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium on Wednesday, was as good as a 200.

“His recent century is ‘equally good’ because he scored so many runs after he was recalled to the team nearly after 10 months. He was holidaying in Hong-Kong with his family, when a call from BCCI made him shorten his vacation," the Dhawan’s father Mahindra Pal Singh.

Interestingly, had Murali Vijay not recovered from his injury, Dhawan would not have been in the side.

When asked whether he regrets the fact that his son missed out on the double ton by just 10 runs, Mahindra said, "We would have been happier had he scored 10 more runs, but that's how the game is. In the history of Indian cricket, there are few great batsmen who have also missed this feat."

Having gotten out in the 190s, Dhawan finds himself in quite an illustrious company. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin and Budhi Kunderan, who all have missed double hundred.

On being asked about his son’s gung-ho celebration of the century, Mahindra said, “His celebration for the first fifty was normal. But he likes to celebrate the century in a special way and this was no exception," he said.
