ICC CWC’19: Rohit Sharma 2 sixes away from beating MS Dhoni’s record

Sharma will also climb at the fourth spot for the most sixes in ODI history.

Mumbai: Indian opener Rohit Sharma has hit 224 sixes so far in ODIs and would require just two more to beat former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record of 225 ODI sixes.

Additionally, if the opener manages to hit the big boundaries in Thursday’s game against West Indies, the player will also climb at the fourth spot for the most sixes in ODI history.

Sharma missed the opportunity for the same in India’s clash against Afghanistan when the vice-captain was dismissed for just one run.

The record for most sixes is currently topped by former Pakistan player and skipper Shahid Afridi, who has 351 sixes to his name, followed by West Indies’ ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle, who stands at 324 sixes.

Rohit Sharma however, has the best ratio amongst the top five six-hitters, having played just 210 ODIs. Sharma is in fact the only player in the top-five to have played lesser than 250 ODIs.

India will surely hope Rohit Sharma to move past his quick dismissal from the last game and continue on the stellar form he’s been otherwise showing at the world cup.
