ICC World T20: Australian women keep semis hope alive

Needing 92 after the winless Irish were held down to 91/7, the defending champions made easy work of the chase.

New Delhi: Australia ensured their entry into the semi-finals of the Women’s ICC World Twenty20 with a clinical seven-wicket win over Ireland in their final Group A league game at the Kotla here on Saturday.

Needing 92 after the winless Irish were held down to 91/7, the defending champions made easy work of the chase. Led by opener Elyse Villani’s 43 and Eliyse Perry’s unbeaten 29, Australia wrapped up the chase in 13.2 overs.
Ireland owed their total to the top three, Clare Shillington (22), Cecilia Joyce (23) and Kim Garth (27) getting bulk of the runs while for Australia, Megan Schutt and Rene Farrell took three and two wickets respectively.
