Post South Africa series, Virat Kohli beats Allan Border to claim unique feat

The India skipper not only proved his credentials as a skipper but also displayed what wonders he can do with the bat.

Mumbai: Virat Kohli played a major role in India’s successful tour of South Africa in 2018, where the visitors convincingly won the ODI and the T20 series despite losing out on the Test series by 2-1 early on.

The India skipper not only proved his credentials as a skipper but also displayed what wonders he can do with the bat.

In the recently-concluded tour of the Proteas, Kohli scored 871 runs across all formats with a staggering average of 79.18 runs, consisting of two fifties and four centuries.

That saw the dashing right-hander surpass Australian batting icon Allan Border in becoming the second highest run-getter by a touring captain. Back in 1985 against England, Border notched 785 runs against rivals England in 14 innings.

However, the one at the top of the list is former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith, who leads the way with 937 runs in 16 innings against England in 2003.

Former England captain Alastair Cook is placed fourth on the list with 769 runs against India in 2012.
