Joe Root is one of my favourite batsmen: Virat Kohli
Mumbai: While Virat Kohli is currently one of the best batsmen going around, he has never shied away from praising his contemporaries and continues to respect those who have served cricket before him.
The Indian Test skipper, who led the team to its fifth consecutive Test series win after beating England 4-0 in the five-match Test series, admitted England’s Joe Root’s is one of his favourite batsmen.
Although the duo share a rivalry, that did not stop him from admiring the Yorkshireman’s batting prowess.
“Joe is one of my favourite batsmen in world cricket along with David Warner and Kane Williamson,” Kohli said to England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) official website. “I haven’t spoken with him a lot but I admire the way he plays. He is an all format batsman and that’s something I really appreciate. He has always been a strong Test player.”
Kohli said that he was especially impressed with Root’s performance during ICC World T20, earlier this year.
“The way he played in the T20 World Cup that was a revelation for me and I thought and I was like wow. He is very smart and he knows his game inside out. It’s very evident,” said Kohli.
“He is a very competent guy and you love to play against such guys on the field. I love watching him bat as well. So, I wish him all the luck and hopefully we can play a lot more against each other peak about the game as well”
Both Kohli and Root churned out good performances in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England. While Kohli (655) finished as the undisputed highest run-getter in the series Root (491) himself put in some good performances to finish as the second highest run-scorer in the tournament.
