What happened in the Lord's dressing room in 1983?

Filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan says his upcoming movie \"1983\" based on India's first World Cup win will provide interesting anecdotes.

Mumbai: Filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan says his upcoming movie "1983" based on India's first World Cup win will give insights about what happened in the dressing room.

Chauhan, who has directed "Lahore" in 2009, is working on the film based on Indian team's campaign and subsequent victory in the 1983 World Cup held in England.

The Kapil Dev-led side had won the Cup by defeating West Indies by 43 runs in the final played at the iconic Lord's in London.

"We all know how special the victory was to the team. There are less details on what happened in the dressing room, we will highlight that. It is about the journey of the team, what was the situation in India, the socio-economic background," Chauhan told PTI.

"Also, the team was considered as underdogs as (at) that time cricket was not considered to be a religion in India. It (the victory) was a historic moment," he added.

Chauhan has been doing a lot of research and gathering information from several cricketers, cricket experts, journalists and others.

"Its very difficult to make a film like this as whoever we met, everyone had a different story. So to gather information from all quarters and make it into two-hour film is difficult. In a biopic, it's important to do justice to the story by staying true to the events," he said.

"All the players were crucial...They are all legendary. We met lot of cricketers to understand things more closely," he added.

The makers are yet to zero in on actors for the film.

"We will go with known actors for the lead roles. We will also have newcomers for the film. By mid-June, our cast should be in place," Chauhan informed.

Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri plans to shoot the film on actual locations to bring authenticity.

"1983" will go on floors by this year-end or early next year.

"We will start pre-production work. We have to shoot the film keeping the weather in mind. We might shoot early next year in London," Induri said.
