Here's what Delhi Daredevils CEO tweeted after Gautam Gambhir stepped down as captain
New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils are currently languishing at the bottom of the Indian Premier League points table. The team has tasted success only once in six matches they have played so far in this years edition.
With two-time IPL winning skipper Gautam Gambhir at the helm, Delhi was expected to win matches right from the start of the tournament. Things did not go according to the plan and ultimately the left hander decided to step down as the skipper for the Delhi side.
Mumbai youngster Shreyas Iyer, who was retained by the franchisee during the 2018 auction will now lead the team for the remaining matches of the season.
Inspite of poor form, Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua showed support to the team and former skipper. In his tweet he said that Gambhir made a brave decision to step down from the captaincy and deserves full respect for his decision.
Dear All continuing where, I left yesterday this decision by @GautamGambhir to step down as #Captain for betterment of the team is legendary. Only the brave can take call like this! Deserves full respect for this decision a first in #India cricket. #TeambeforeIndividual #Respect
