T20 tri-series: Indian women take on England

Jhulan Goswami was the stand out performer with the ball in the first game and so was vice-captain Smriti Mandhana with the bat.

Mumbai: After four continuous losses to Australian women across two formats, India will be relieved to face a different opposition in England in their second match of the women’s T20 tri-series at Brabourne stadium here on Sunday.

However, the hosts know that it is no mean task against the ICC ODI Women’s World Cup champions England who outclassed Australia by eight wickets in their first game here on Friday.

The middle order has failed to capitalise on good starts from the openers, therefore skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy has to step up to the challenge posed by English bowlers. Indian spinners have been a big disappointment in absence of Ekta Bisht.

They haven’t picked enough wickets and have also leaked runs. Fielders haven’t helped their cause either. Jhulan Goswami was the stand out performer with the ball in the first game and so was vice-captain Smriti Mandhana with the bat.
