Captain and Coach to decide time for the WAGs to spend on away tour, says CoA

Previously, the BCCI decided the time limit for the WAGs.

Mumbai: A rare war has been waging over how much time the cricketers’ wives and girlfriends can spend with them while the team is on tour. The BCCI got stunned after the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) decided that the Captain and Coach will determine the time limit – how much time the WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) can spend with their partners during an away series.

Previously, the BCCI decided the time limit for the WAGs, and that generally motivated the players to let their partners join them after spending most of the time in away tours.

During the recent World Cup, the BCCI directed the cricketers to not invite their partners for the first 20 days of the tournament. However, the female partners were able to spend only 15 days with the players.

Since the CoA transferred of power to the captain and coach, the players might ask their female partners to spend full time with them from the start and till the end of the away series.

After the CoA’s power transmission to the captain and the coach, A senior BCCI official told the IANS, “a clear case of conflict of interest”. "The essence of conflict of interest is that when you are taking a decision of which you are yourself a beneficiary, that is conflict.”

“I think the CoA is like an unfettered entity which has moved away from any limitations it may have originally perceived on account of the Supreme Court order on the Lodha Committee report,” BCCI official added.

Meanwhile, another official said, "Some of the recent decisions of the CoA clearly shows that they feel they are above the apex court because certain decisions they have taken can only be taken by the honourable court."
