Mithali Raj sets sights on the World Cup

She says her team will be quite a handful for the opponents at the tournament to be played in the United Kingdom.

Hyderabad: With the ICC Women’s World Cup coming up next month, Indian captain Mithali Raj is looking forward to the event and says her team will be quite a handful for the opponents at the tournament to be played in the United Kingdom.

“It’s nice to know that people are aware of there being two teams in England in June,” she said in reference to the Indian men’s side that would look to defend the Champions Trophy around the same time.

“We had a good tournament in South Africa and will look to carry forward the momentum next month. It’s very easy to lose focus but we must put our best foot forward. Having just completed 100 ODIs with the team, the women’s cricket team is certainly going places,” Mithali said at a function to release the book A Tall Order by Kapil Pathare.

The book offers insights into the careers of 10 Indian cricketers — Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, M.S. Dhoni, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan.
Former Indian spinner Venkatapathy Raju recollected his time sharing the dressing room with the stalwarts mentioned in the book. “I consider myself privileged to have played alongside the legends mentioned in A Tall Order. Budding cricketers and future generations can seek inspiration from this exclusive list,” he said.
