Kohli recently became the first-ever batsman to go past 500 runs in a bilateral ODI series after having aggregated 558 runs in six matches against the Proteas.

Not only that, he also became the top-scorer in a bilateral 50-over series as captain surpassing George Bailey, AB de Villiers and Kane Williamson.

Kohli has not had a good time with the bat in the two T20s so far, having scored just 26 runs and one run from the first and second encounter.

However, the talismanic Indian skipper will be the first from the country to get to 2000 T20I runs and the third batsman overall to achieve the feat.

The 29-year-old needs just 17 more runs to celebrate the achievement, and could do so in the concluding match of the tour.

Kohli, who has played 57 T20Is, has so far scored 1983 runs at an average of 50.85. Despite scoring no centuries in the shortest format of the game, the Delhi batsman owns 18 half-centuries to his name.

Kohli is placed third in the list of top-run getters in T20Is. The chart is topped by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill ( 2271 runs), with fellow former Kiwi batsman Brendon McCullum (2140 runs) behind him.

The other Indians behind the run-machine is Rohit Sharma (1668 runs) and MS Dhoni (1432 runs).
