Virat Kohli congratulates childhood coach on Dronacharya honour

Rajkumar Sharma believes that he has more young 'Virat Kohlis' coming through.

New Delhi: India's Test captain Virat Kohli congratulated his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, on being selected for the Dronacharya award, on Tuesday.

Kohli, who is in the West Indies, tweeted,

Sharma will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi, on August 29.

The other coaches who will be conferred the honour are Nagapuri Ramesh (athletics), Sagar Dayal (boxing), Bishweshwar Nandi (gymnastics), S Pradeep Kumar (swimming) and Mahabir Singh (wrestling).

Dronacharya is conferred on coaches who produce medal winners at prestigious international sports events. The awardees will receive statuettes, certificates and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each.

For Sharma, the focus is on producing the next batch of good competent cricketers who will catch the attention of the cricket lovers.

"My student Pulkit Narang, a spinner has already made his senior state debut. There is a 12-year-old boy called Ram Dev, in whom I see the spark that I saw in Virat years ago. Let's hope that they blossom into good solid cricketers," said Sharma.
