Hyderabad: Rising Pune Supergiant coach Stephen Fleming rued finishing runner-up in IPL-10 after having come so close to laying hands on that glittering trophy on Sunday night. Gutted by the fall of two wickets off successive balls in the last over of a low-scoring nail-biter that they lost by a run, the New Zealander said “It was a game of inches and metres.”
Fleming said Pune would have loved having Ben Stokes the full time. “But we knew he would not be there. We did not spend too much time lamenting that. From his point of view, he would have loved this situation. He is a big game player,” he added.
On the final, Fleming said: “Steve Smith came very close to winning it in the last over. It was an even fight on a tough wicket to score on. We knew that it was going to be a tough total. We knew MI have top class bowlers. We fell behind a couple of times. We lost wickets at key times. We could not kill the game.”
