Watch: Murali Vijay hugs groundstaff in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu batsman greeted the members of the ground staff.

Chennai: While Indian cricket team is lauded for their brilliant series win over England, Murali Vijay’s touching gesture following the conclusion of Chennai Test on Tuesday is winning hearts.

After the conclusion of the fifth Test which India won by an innings and 75 runs, Vijay, the local lad, greeted the members of the ground staff. He also hugged them as the Indian team celebrated its win over Alastair Cook-led England side.

While Vijay’s affinity with the ground staff at the MA Chidambaram stadium is obvious considering he plays for Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy, it may also well be because of the tremendous work they put in to keep the ground match ready following Cyclone Vardah. The cyclone which derailed Chennai had also damaged practice facilities at Chepauk.

While neither India nor England could practice ahead of the final Test, the hard yards the ground staff put in, including using coals to dry the pitch, was appreciated by one and all.

Cook, England’s skipper, had also made it clear that net sessions, in the times when people have lost their lives, are not really important.
