Alastair Cook doffs hat to India
Chennai: England captain Alastair Cook looked every bit deflated as one could imagine after seeing his team slide to a humiliating innings and 75-run loss in the final Test against India here on Tuesday. Always a good sport, he complimented India on their performance throughout the series.
Excerpts
On the series defeat: It’s been a tough tour. When you lose games of cricket it becomes hard and it can be quite a lonely place. You’ve got to give credit to India. They’ve played some good cricket on the way. We weren’t good enough or skilful enough as players to stop a cluster of wickets from falling on the final day here.
On whether he would stay on as captain: I’ve got to go away and do some thinking. This is not the right time to make decisions as big as that. I need to go home first and enjoy Christmas and then come back in January and look to plan with Andrew Strauss and see what’s the right decision for English cricket. I’ve got to go away and decide whether I am the right man to take England forward.
On his record against Jadeja: I have a good overall record against left-arm spinners. My stats have taken a bit of a dent in the last six weeks and yes I found tackling him a little hard.
On how frustrating the year has been: We played some good cricket at times and played some pretty average cricket. We haven’t played well when we’ve fallen behind in games. We have to find a way to survive in tricky situations, which we couldn’t.
