MSK Prasad, panel members to select squad for ODI, T20I series vs WI for last time

Mumbai: Today, for the last time, the chairman of national selector, MSK Prasad will be the attending the meeting to select the team for the upcoming ODI and T20I home series against the West Indies.

Prasad, whose tenure ends this month, will be leaving the chief selector’s position vacant, along with his panel members – Devang Gandhi, Gagan Khoda, Jatin Paranjape and Sharandeep Singh.

A new selection committee is set o be formed soon, since the the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled on December 1.

Senior officials from the apex governing body of cricket have also hinted that a new panel is set to be formed. A list of possible candidates for the panel has also been given.

The list comprises of anchor Laxman Sivaramakarishnan, ex-cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Ashish Nehra, however, an official confirmation is yet to be received.

After the MSK Prasad-led committed attends the meeting in Kolkata, it remains to be seen whether they pick Rohit Sharma for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies. Prasad’s committee will have to take a decision, since Rohit has been playing for too long.

During the T20I series against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli decided to take some time out and Rohit stepped up as the stand-in skipper. “The selectors are likely to have a word with Rohit and take a call accordingly. A long season awaits him, so it needs to be discussed,” a source in development stated.
