Hard-fought wins will make Virat Kohli stronger: Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly believes that playing for five days to win a Test match will help India in the long run.

Mumbai: India’s hard-fought victory against England on the fifth day of the Vizag Test will serve to make Virat Kohli stronger, believes former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

India dished out an all-round performance in the second Test, to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series against England. While the hosts struggled in the first Test at Rajkot, they won the Vizag game by an overwhelming margin of 246 runs.

Ganguly believes that playing for five days to win a Test match will help India in the long run.

“This is how we are going to become a better team and win Test matches in India – the hard way,” said Ganguly to cricket news portal ESPNCricinfo. “Not the old fashioned way of square turners, rank turners and you finish the Test match in three days.”

The 44-year-old, who is currently the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief, says that hard-fought wins will make both Team India and Kohli “stronger”.

“This is going to make the team (India) stronger. This is going to make Virat Kohli stronger,” he said.

“The next three Test matches, I’m sure once the wickets are good, it’s going to be entertaining because England will fight hard,” continued Ganguly. “And I guarantee you, by the end of five Test matches; India will be a very good side.”
