Chemistry with Gambhir crucial for success: Uthappa
Mohali: After claiming a six-wicket win in their last evening’s Indian Premier League clash against Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders’ opener Robin Uthappa (53) has said that his batting chemistry with skipper Gautam Gambhir is the key factor behind their recent success.
“I think we understand each other. We played a lot of cricket together. We complement each other’s game as well. So, we ran well between the wickets. I think the batting chemistry between the two of us is fantastic. We rotate the strike well. And in T20 if you can do 50-60 partnership it can put you in the winnings side,” Uthappa told the media following the victory.
Admitting that it is important to have consistency in the performance, the 30-year-old said that he had just tried to give a solid start to his side so as to make it easier for the middle-order batsmen chased down the score. “As soon as I started hitting the ball I thought let me try and take advantage of it. I stick to my plan and happy to get 60 in the first six. So, it is important to get that kind of a start to keep momentum with us.”
