BCCI appoints first CEO Rahul Johri
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday made history of sorts by appointing a paid chief executive, Rahul Johri, to oversee its administrative matters.
Johri, a media executive most recently with Discovery Networks, will report to BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and will be based in Mumbai. Johri will be responsible for the functioning of operations, stakeholder management and building strategies for further promoting the sport, the BCCI said. Commenting on the appointment, board president Shashank Manohar, said, “We are sure Rahul’s vast experience and knowledge will benefit the board.”
Johri’s appointment comes in the wake of suggestions made by the Justice Lodha panel set up by the Supreme Court to identify structural changes and bring in accountability in the way the cricket body is run following the IPL spot-fixing scandal two years ago.
