Hyderabad Cricket Association to start spin academy
Hyderabad: In an attempt to optimise the performance of players in the state, the Hyderabad Cricket Association is launching a Spinners Academy in the city.
Making the announcement at a press conference held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, HCA president Arshad Ayub, a former Test off-spinner himself, said the endeavour is to brush up the talent in that department.
Arshad said the HCA will involve all spinners of repute from the State —M.V. Narasimha Rao (HCA Academy of Excellence Director), N. Shivlal Yadav (former Test cricketer, HCA secretary as well as BCCI president), S.L. Venkatapathi Raju (former Test player) —and himself to get the best out of local cricketers.
“We must have quality spinners whether it’s an off-spinner, left-a-arm spinner or leg-spinner. We want to train players in the Under 16, Under 19 and Under 23 categories,” Arshad said.
As part of the programme, specialised camps for spinners will be conducted.
Open trials for spinners are also being planned shortly during which about 30 players including those from District will be selected and trained.
