Bid to rope in Indian T20 players for anti-drug drive

Both Indian and New Zealand teams will practice in the stadium a day after their arrival on November 5.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Efforts are on to strike chords with students by giving them some good advice along with 5,000 free tickets for the Nov 7 India vs New Zealand match. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) was in talks with the Indian team officials to rope them in for an anti-drug campaign. “In the context of reports of drug abuse in the state, we are trying to get Indian players to promote the anti-drug campaign,” said a senior KCA official.

Both Indian and New Zealand teams will practice in the stadium a day after their arrival on November 5. It is unlikely that spectators will be allowed to witness the practice. Similarly, the fun will not be unlimited as officials are unlikely to permit drums or any other musical instrument into the stadium.

“Air horns, trumpets, laser lights, flares, etc., are unlikely to be allowed inside. A meeting will be held with police officials regarding what all to be permitted,” the official said.

Green protocol not practical
As per the international cricket rules, glass bottles and steels jugs cannot be allowed in the stadium as this could be a security threat to players during games, says the corporation. This could essentially make it impossible for it to stick onto green protocol, mayor V.K. Prasanth said in a statement.

To make the post-match waste management effective, the ‘extended producer responsibility’ will be affixed, the statement said. This essentially means the agency that supplies food items for spectators will have to ensure the processing of disposable items such as cups and plates used for food distribution.
