Mayank Agarwal not to be a part of India’s ODI and T20I squad for WI series

As per a report by the Times of India (TOI), Mayank Agarwal will not be part of the limited-overs squad for the upcoming series against WI.

Mumbai: Despite having a sensational time with the bat, India’s Test Opener Mayank Agarwal might not get selected for the T20 and 50-overs format.

The Karnataka batsman, who scored 215 in the Test match against South Africa and 243 in the first Test match against Bangladesh, may have sent a strong statement to the selectors with his dominating performances.

However, a report states that the right-hander batsman may have to wait for his chances. As per a report by the Times of India (TOI), Mayank Agarwal will not be part of the limited-overs squad for the upcoming series against West Indies. The series is slated to start from December 6.

The official statement from the disclosed that Mayank Agarwal had to be kept out of T20 and ODI squad because there was no place left for the right-handed southpaw and the selectors are comfortable with the present choices available to them.

“Where is the space in the opening department in the limited overs team? Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) are your established openers. There's no slot at the top for even someone like KL Rahul now. Virat (Kohli) will come back into the team as well. Players can go through ups and downs. Mayank can only come in only if Rohit or Shikhar want to take rest, but he won't be rushed into the T20 side,” the report stated.

Mayank Agarwal might be a good option in the Tests, but his IPL (Indian Premier League) record is the reason why he is not getting a chance in the T20Is and ODIs.

Despite scoring 332 runs in 13 matches at an average of 25.53 for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), in the 2019 IPL season, the Test opener has failed to make the right kind of impression on the selectors.

Nevertheless, Mayank Agarwal did have a fair domestic season, as he smashed 13 centuries in the first-class. During the 2019 World Cup, Mayank came in as a substitute for injured Vijay Shankar, but he was not in the playing 11.
