Mumbai: Ravi Shastri has laid down the law. As Head Coach, he is authorised to do so. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India setting off a storm in naming Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as batting and bowling consultants, without consulting Shastri, the drama over the support staff ended on Tuesday when the new coach said that Dravid and Zaheer would come on board as consultants, as and when required.
The 55-year-old Shastri in his second stint with the team after a two-year (2014-2016) run, placed his faith in the same team that worked with him in the past, going for Tamil Nadu’s Bharat Arun as bowling coach while retaining Sanjay Bangar (batting coach) and R. Sridhar as fielding coach.
The Indian team will depart for a tour of Sri Lanka on Wednesday, that includes three Tests, five ODIs and a one-off T20.
