Hasin Jahan's allegations are false: Mohammed Shami, brother tell Kolkata police

Shami and his brother Mohammed Hasib Ahmed was interrogated for over 3 hours by Kolkata police on Wednesday.

Kolkata: The Kolkata police on Wednesday interrogated Indian cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami and his brother Mohammed Hasib Ahmed following Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife, complaint against Shami and his four family members.

Shami was interrogated for over three hours as he got a temporary relief from Kolkata Police to join his Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD).

Facing summons from Kolkata Police after his wife had filed multiple cases including those of infidelity and domestic violence, Shami was held back here after Delhi's IPL fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 16.

It is learnt that Shami and his brother was interrogated separately as well as together by Neeloo Sherpa (Chakraborty), Deputy Commissioner of Police, detective department, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Pravin Tripathi. It is reported that Shami and his brother said that the charges made against them are false.

"We have recorded their statement and they claimed that all the charges made against them by Jahan is false. We are exploring all allegations including the Dubai part. We have not yet decided whether to take the statement of Pakistani girl Alisbah," Tripathi was quoted as saying by News18.

“Our investigation in on and soon Shami’s mother (Anjuman Ara-Begum) and Ahmad’s wife (Shama) will be questioned. Our team will go to Uttar Pradesh to record their statements. Their names are also in FIR,” he added.

When asked whether Shami can play in Delhi Daredevils’ next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 21, Tripathi said: “There is no restriction. He can continue with rest of the matches but he will be examined again.”

Tripathi also made it clear that the police did not seize Shami’s passport but refused to divulge any more details when asked whether Shami’s statement was video recorded.

“We have not seized his passport. As far as video recording of his statement is concern, I will not be able to disclose the investigation part,” Tripathi said.

"We have got no objection in Shami joining his IPL side. But if need be, we will be call him again," Tripathi told reporters after Shami's grilling.

"We can call him anytime but at this point of time, we don't find it is necessary. He's fully cooperating in this case," Tripathi added.

It is learnt that Shami was scheduled to leave on Wednesday night to join his franchise DD in Bengaluru where they play a match against the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 21.

Asked whether they are satisfied with the findings, the police officer said, "Satisfaction is not the answer. We examined him professionally, got our answers and after that the investigation will take its course."

Shami did not talk to the media and was seen whisked away by a police escort from the "in" gate of the police headquarters, while hordes of mediamen and camerapersons were asked to wait at the "out" gate with a police cordon in place.

"I've no idea about the police escort. It's not in my knowledge. Please clarify this with the headquarters, safety and security of Indian players is a different issue," Tripathi said.

Shami's elder brother Hasib Ahmed, who was also booked in the case, was also summoned as he checked in about two hours in advance, but both left together.

"The two were interrogated separately as well as together," Tripathi said.

Shami was in Kolkata for the first time since his wife, Hasin Jahan, made startling claims on her Facebook page about infidelity and domestic abuse and posted screenshots of the pacer's alleged chats with multiple women, last month.

Jahan had taken the cricket world by storm after she claimed that the Indian pacer was having extra-marital affairs. She took to Facebook and shared the photos of Shami’s alleged WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger chats with women. She later claimed that Shami’s mother and brother tortured her and tried to kill her and Shami, following his return from India’s tour of South Africa, beat her.

While Shami has denied all the allegations, Jahan filed a written complaint in Jadavpur police station and an FIR was lodged against Shami and his four family members.
