Mumbai: Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has withdrawn his support for the Indian Junior Premier League (IJPL), after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly shot him a notice not to support tournaments that are not recognised by the board.
The IJPL, which has been started by Delhi-based businessman Dinesh Kapoor, is a league for cricketers between the age-groups 14-18 years old.
Gambhir had, earlier this year sent out a tweet, promoting IJPL.
According to reports, however, BCCI shot out a notice to Gambhir for endorsing an unrecognised tournament. As reported by sports news portal Sportskeeda, Gambhir has since withdrawn his support for the tournament.
Interestingly, India limited-overs cricket captain MS Dhoni was not pulled-up by the board for endorsing the UAE-based Masters Champions League, where his wife Sakshi’s sports marketing firm Rhiti Sports also co-owns one of the franchises in the League.
