Hyderabad: B. Sandeep and Ambati Rayudu played handy knocks but missed out opportunities to score centuries as Hyderabad finished Day One at 289 for 8 in their Ranji Trophy Group ‘A’ match against Assam being played at Guwahati. Invited to bat, Hyderabad’s top four were sent back early by Arup Das, who picked 3 for 90, and Rajjakuddin Ahmed (1/65). After the dismissals of Tanmay Agarwal (24), Akshath Reddy (5), Mehdi Hassan (0) and K. Sumanth (0), it was skipper Rayudu and Sandeep who brought Hyderabad back on track after stitching a brilliant 157-run partnership. Rayudu and Sandeep scored 83 and 84 respectively.
Later, both Rayudu and Sandeep were removed by Rahul Singh who also picked the wicket of M. Ravi Kiran to finish the day with the figures of 27-6-54-3. Akash Bhandari and Mohammad Muddassir were batting on 43 and 1 respectively when the stumps were drawn. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu let Madhya Pradesh off the hook allowing them to reach 224 for 7 after having them at 67 for 5 at one stage at close on the first day of their Group “C” match at Indore. Ankit Sharma (75 batting) and Ankit Dane (63) rescued the team after being sent into bat by Tamil Nadu.
