Hameed's run out was the turning point: Sunil Gavaskar

Indian bowlers rocked England in their first innings, to leave visitors tottering on 103 for five at the close of the second day's play

Visakhapatnam: Indian bowlers rocked England in their first innings of the second Test, to leave visitors tottering on 103 for five at the close of the second day’s play, in Visakhapatnam.

England innings got off to the worst possible start when they lost the wicket of Captain Alastair Cook in the third over of the innings. But it was Haseeb Hammed’s run out in the 21st over that lead to the mini batting collapse.

Both Jayant Yadav and Wriddhiman Saha combined brilliantly in the field to remove Hameed.

In an interview with NDTV, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said that Haseeb Hammed’s run out was the tuning point of the innings.

"Outstanding work all around. Ground fielding has improved by leaps and bounds in recent times. Run out of Hameed was a turning point. England were doing good till then," said Gavaskar.

Yadav played a sensible innings of 35 in the morning to help India reach 455 in the first innings. The bowler also picked up his maiden Test wicket when he dismissed Moeen Ali in his second over.

Gavaskar was full of praise for the offspinner and said Yadav showed that he belongs to the highest level.

“He (Yadav) batted sensibly. His partnership with Ashwin was a major factor in taking India past 400. In bowling, Yadav has a nice easy action, nice follow through. He also took a wicket, and contributed in the field too. If anybody does that in the first Test, he certainly belongs to the highest level," added Gavaskar.
