Chennai: Virat Kohli’s Team India completed a convincing 26-run win over Australia in the first ODI here on Sunday. After having posted 281-7, thanks to MS Dhoni’s 79 and Hardik Pandya’s 83, the Indian bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict the visitors to 137-9 from 21 overs in the rain-curtailed match.

Defending 164, each Indian bowler contributed during the innings by taking wickets. While Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each, Yzvendra Chahal displayed a fine performance by picking up three wickets.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, too, joined the party, picking up one wicket each. Jasprit Bumrah, though, had something more to celebrate after his stunning catch at fine-leg off Hardik Pandya’s ball to see off Aussie captain Steven Smith.

In the fifth over, when Smith lofted the ball off Pandya’s delivery up in the air, the ball failed to go beyond the boundary, which led Bumrah to complete a stunning catch at short-fine leg, providing India with a crucial breakthrough in the match.

Earlier in the match, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell had taken a stunning catch at backward-point to see off India captain Virat Kohli for duck, off a delivery from Nathan Coulter-Nile, who got his second wicket during the course. Maxwell produced a flying effort, who completed a spectacular catch.

Australia will look to make a comeback in the second ODI against Virat Kohli and co, taking place at Kolkata on Thursday.
