3 youth threaten, try to barge into Mohammed Shami's house; arrested

The Indian cricket team pacer's wife filed an FIR post the incident.

Kolkata: Mohammed Shami, who will be travelling with Virat Kohli-led Indian side for the Test series in Sri Lanka, was allegedly attacked by three youngsters outside his home in Kolkata on Saturday. It is also learnt that the the trio also tried to barge into Shami’s home.

The accused were presented before court on Monday after Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan lodged an FIR in the Jadavpur Police station.

“Yes we have received a complaint from Mr. Mohammed Shami’s family. Immediate action was taken against the accused. Based on the CCTV footage we were able to arrest the biker and his gang on Sunday morning,” the police told Wah Cricket.

The incident took place late night on Saturday when Shami was returning home with his wife. Shami’s driver was allegedly driving fast and the car almost collided with the bike of the youngsters, which was parked close to Shami’s residence.

It is learnt that Shami's driver and the three youngsters were then involved in an argument. But before the things could get out of hand, Shami stepped out of the car. While both the parties - Shami's driver and the the trio - calmed down, the youth then gathered their friends and manhandled the gatekepper of Shami's house and hurled abuses at him.

Shami’s neighbours though stated that the Indian pacer has never behaved like a celebrity.

“He has been living here for a long time now. We never had any problems with him or his family. In fact, he does not behave like a celebrity at all. We often find him in front of the local chat centre. His daughter plays around in the park. So it is hard to believe something like this would happen to them,” a report in ABP quoted a source, close to Shami’s family, saying on the condition of anonymity.

This is not first time though when a member of Shami’s family has come under the scanner. Last year, Shami's wife was targetted for not wearing hijab.
