When Jonathan Trott grabbed Wahab Riaz's throat
Mumbai: Pakistan’s current assignment in England is filled with drama and nostalgia. The same team, which faced jeers for the spot-fixing episode in 2010, beat the hosts by 75 runs on return. The series, six years ago, only cared about the Mohammad Amir-Mohammad Asif-Salman Butt fixing fiasco and missed out one of the major fights on the cricket field.
The infamous occurrence led England to say that they will not play the ODI series against Pakistan.
However, the series went on but Pakistan seamer Wahab Riaz and England batsman Jonathan Trott got into a fight during nets.
The ugly spat took place before the fourth ODI at Lord’s itself. Both the cricketers were involved in a physical fight. Trott ended up grabbing Riaz’s throat.
According to reports, the situation went out of control when Trott told Riaz: “How much are you going to make from the bookies today?”
England batting coach Graham Gooch had to intervene to separate the cricketers.
Both the players were summoned to the Marylebone Cricket Club office by match referee Jeff Crowe which delayed the toss. Pakistan won that match but lost the series 3-2.
