Anurag Thakur all set to become BCCI President
Mumbai: BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur is all set to be Indian cricket board’s next President following the resignation of Shashank Manohar from the post.
Manohar was elected unanimously and unopposed as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is expected that Thakur will find no resistance in his race to become President of the world’s most richest cricket governing body.
According to reports the HPCA President has been nominated as the candidate by all six associations from East Zone in the country, and Ajay Shirke is likely to take over the post of the BCCI’s secretary.

Thakur was always the likely candidate for BCCI president’s post. According to sources all six bodies in the East Zone — Cricket Association of Bengal, National Cricket Club of Kolkata, Orissa Cricket Association, Assam Cricket Association, Jharkhand Cricket Association and Tripura Cricket Association have nominated the BJP MP as their candidate.
“All six associations in East Zone has agreed to nominate Thakur for president post. We have sent out nomination form to him few days ago,” Gautam Roy, the president of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) was quoted as saying in a report.

The by-laws of the BCCI say that any person contesting for the president’s post needs a proposer. The person needs to have one proposer from the zone which is electing the president and this time around it is the time of the East Zone to select the BCCI president.
With Thakur emerging as the favourite, the special meeting on Sunday is expected to be a low-key affair.
“Thakur has been unanimous choice of all East Zone members, he has done a good job as a secretary. We all felt that he is right candidate for the post,” an officer from the East Zone association said.
