IPL 2018: RCB coach Daniel Vettori rues team's finishing abilities post MI loss

It was a battle of captains as Rohit Sharma's 94 proved to be worthy than Virat Kohli's unbeaten 92, as MI handed RCB their third loss.

Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach on Tuesday rued the team’s finishing abilities after their 46-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League encounter at Wankhede Stadium here.

It was a battle of captains as Rohit Sharma’s 94 proved to be worthy than Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 92, as MI handed RCB their third loss this season.

“The powerplay overs against Rajasthan Royals in the last match were not bad. But, our finishing abilities in the matches have been poor. We just have to execute better with some proper planning, particularly on the good wickets,” he said during the post-match press conference.

The former Kiwi cricketer also added that the team is not putting all the pressure on AB de Villiers, who got out for just one run.

“We have faith in our batting group. We have got a long batting order. We don’t want to put all the pressure on just one player. We know that AB (de Villiers) is an incredible player,” he continued.

RCB conceded a total of 200 for the second time in this tournament, with MI finishing with 213-6. MI had lost two wickets in the first two balls, but a 108-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis saw the hosts pile up a huge total.Reacting to the total, Vettori admitted that the visitors should have restricted the hosts to 180 or less. “On losing out after getting two early wickets: We knew how the wicket worked. We always saw anything under 180 as a good result,” he said.

New Zealand’s Tim Southee is yet to play a match for RCB this season, and Vettori confirmed that Southee was unwell.

“Tim is not well. He is not here, but will join us in the next couple of days,” he concluded.

RCB will now lock horns against Delhi Daredevils at home on April 21, in a bid to regain confidence and bounce back in the eight-team tournament.
