Why did Amitabh Bachchan apologise to Chris Gayle?

Mumbai: Jamaican heartthrob Chris Gayle lit up Wankhede stadium with after the indomitable opener scored a smashing 48-ball 100 to ensure West Indies emerged victorious against England in the ICC World T20 on Wednesday.

Gayle’s unbeaten performance with the willow earned him a lot of praise. But the cherry on the cake was an interesting tweet from Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Big B not only praised Gayle but also apologised for not meeting him. "T 2176 - CHRIS GAYLE incredulous ! Apologies for not being able to meet you in Mumbai, and to listen to my songs from you. Saw game ! WOAH !,” senior Bachchan tweeted.

Gayle was prompt with his reply. "We will definitely catch up... Cheers," he said.

Bollywood and cricket share a strong bond. The West Indies side are known for their love for music and dance. Gayle along with his teammate Dwayne Bravo were seen partying together with B-Town and Tamil actress Sneha Ullal.

Not long ago, Amitabh Bachchan was left without words when Gayle presented him with an autographed bat. The 73-year-old actor took to social media to express his happiness.

"Mr. Chris Gayle... What an honour... I never knew you would know me... So humbled. We are all great fans of yours! I mean Chris Gayle, a fan of Hindi movies and presents me a golden bat autographed? I mean this is revelation," Bachchan said.

Gayle, who plays in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore, was proud to give his bat to Bachchan. "Proud to gift my Spartan bat to a legend @srbachchan, love his movies and his style, legend. Thanks @spartancricket," Gayle tweeted.
