The 27-year-old produced a match-winning spell, which saw him pick six wickets for just 25 runs, helping Virat Kohli-led Team India beat England by 75 runs to win the three-match T20 series 2-1. The Indian leg-spinner’s bowling performance the third best in T20 cricket.
Batting first, India scored 202/6, with half-centuries from Suresh Raina and former Team India skipper MS Dhoni. Chasing a huge total of 203 at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, England lost openers Jason Roy and Sam Billings pretty early, with Chahal removing Sam Billings in the second over.
While Joe Root (40 runs) and Morgan (46 runs) kept England in the hunt with a 64-run stand, with the scoreboard reading 119/2. However, the things went downhill as soon as Chahal was brought back into the attack.
The spinner picked up two quick wickets in the 13th over where he dismissed Morgan and Root off consecutive deliveries. In the 16th over, he claimed wickets of Ben Stokes (6 runs), Chris Jordan, (0 runs) and Moeen Ali (2 runs) to destroy the England batting order as their last eight wickets fell for just eight runs.
While Chahal was then awarded Man of the Match for his super show with the ball, at his IPL homeground, Thursday’s announcement comes as an icing on the cake.
