In the second innings Hyderabad continued their emphatic batting performance by scoring 270 for the fall of eight wickets.

Hyderabad: After a brilliant overall show and a great batting display from N. Thakur Tilak Varma, Hyderabad advanced to the semifinals of Vijay Merchant Trophy after they drew a quarterfinal match with Punjab that was played at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.

Put in to bat, Hyderabad posted a mammoth 455 on the board in their first innings and bowled out Punjab for 196 to take an early lead in the match. In the second innings Hyderabad continued their emphatic batting performance by scoring 270 for the fall of eight wickets.

First innings centurion N. Thakur Tilak Varma continued to be at his best and hit a fine 81 to help Hyderabad take a huge lead and push Punjab onto the backfoot.

P. Abhishek played second fiddle by contributing 43 not out and strung along nicely with A. Vaishnav Reddy who made 36. Meanwhile, Punjab’s Madhav Singh picked three wickets.

The Punjab batting unit continued their poor display even in the second innings. They could not quite face the Hyderabad bowlers, who proved quite a handful for their opponents yet again.

The start was great by the Punjab players, but they gradually fell into the trap of the Hyderabad bowlers. The top order failed to stay at the crease for much longer time, eventually the middle ordered also faltered thanks to some fine bowling by the rival team. Punjab eventually were bowled out for mere 196 runs in 183 overs.
