After dream Test debut, Prithvi Shaw to be called to India's ODI team vs West Indies?

Shaw has aggregated 938 runs from 22 List A games where he averages 42.33 and has a strike rate of 115.37.

Mumbai: India’s promising youngster Prithvi Shaw had a series to remember in the recently-concluded Tests against West Indies. Having scored his maiden Test hundred in his debut innings, the 18-year-old went onto aggregate 237 runs from just two matches.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the teenager could be included in the Indian squad for the last three ODIs against West Indies, where he could open alongside Rohit Sharma.

The squad for the first two ODIs were announced last week, but Shaw was not a part of it.

Last week, a review meeting was attended by captain Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.

"With an eye to the World Cup, the main focus was how to rotate players. In fact, more than rotation, it would be more about how to save our key players. That’s why you would see the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami in and out of the squad, not playing regularly. The players who are important for all formats will be adequately taken care of. Going ahead also, these things will keep happening,” a source close to the meeting was quoted saying by The Indian Express.

Shaw, who started playing cricket at the age of eight, has aggregated 938 runs from 22 List A games where he averages 42.33 and has a strike rate of 115.37.

The report goes onto add that selecting Shaw remains an option even though the pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has remained the first choice.

The five-match ODI series starts on Sunday with the first match at Guwahati.
