Hitman Rohit backs Test team

India are 0-2 down in the five-match Test series as a result of abysmal batting.

Mumbai: Rohit Sharma is ready to shoulder any responsibility in the Test team. The dashing Mumbai batsman is not part of the beleaguered Indian Test squad in England. If Virat Kohli wants to emulate Sourav Ganguly who promoted Virender Sehwag to the top-order, Rohit would be available on speed dial for the captain.

“I have never been offered (a chance) yet, but I'm open to anything the team management wants. I never thought I would be an opener in ODIs when I started playing or when I was playing for India,” he said.

“But it happened along the way, so I keep my options open. When the opportunity comes, I will take it,” said Rohit, who is a brand ambassador of Conekt, on Thursday.

After being dropped for the one-off Afghanistan Test, he was overlooked again for the England series. “I want to be part of the (Test) team, but it is not in my hands. I'm doing everything possible to give myself the best chance when the opportunity comes,” he added.

India are 0-2 down in the five-match Test series as a result of abysmal batting. Rohit backed the team and said two matches couldn't define them.

“There are still three Test matches to go and I think India can turn it around if we have the belief that we can do it,” Rohit said.
