\'Ravi Shastri may keep his job as head coach of Team India\', says BCCI Official

Skipper Virat Kohli and some of the players are also impressed with Shastri\'s style of functioning and want him to be reappointed.

Mumbai: Despite India's exit in the semi-final of the World Cup 2019, head coach Ravi Shastri is believed to have earned the confidence of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI).

Skipper Virat Kohli and some of the players are also impressed with Shastri's style of functioning and want him to be reappointed as the head coach of the Indian team.

"Ravi (Shastri) has done everything right for the team. They have become No.1 in Tests, they were No.2 in ODIs till England took over. One bad match does not make the coach bad. If he reapplies he will get preference," a BCCI official told NDTV.

Shastri earned above Rs 8 crore from BCCI during his tenure as the head coach of Team India. Shastri is expected to re-apply for the coach's job, along with the bowling coach Bharat Arun.

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri and support staff have been given a 45-day contract extension after the World Cup. They will remain in charge of Team India for the three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests to be played during the tour of the West Indies from August 3 to September 3.

Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), led by Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy will pick the next head coach of the Indian team.

Along with picking the head coach, the CAC will also consult with the Indian selectors while recruiting other coaches.

Seven posts -- batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach and administrative manager -- were advertised for yesterday by BCCI. The last date of application is July 30.
