Sydney: Aussie cricket legend Rod Marsh has resigned from his post as the chairman of selectors of Cricket Australia, after the Baggy Green’s poor performances in recent Test matches.
While no replacement has been named yet, Cricket Australia is set to hold a meeting on Wednesday evening to decide on an interim replacement for the 69-year-old.
"This is my own decision and no-one within Cricket Australia has pressured me or even suggested that I should do this," Marsh was quoted as saying by Australian cricket news portal Cricket.com.au.
"Clearly, though, it is time for some fresh thinking, just as it is for our Test team to welcome some new faces as we build for the future,” he continued. "I have always had the best interests of Australian cricket foremost in my heart, and that's why I have made this decision.”
"I wish the captain, coach and the team all the best going forward. We will be great again."
Australia have been on poor form this season, losing all of their last five Tests. They also suffered a 3-0 bilateral ODI series loss in South Africa, earlier this year.
The Baggy Green were also dished out a 3-0 whitewash in Sri Lanka, before losing the first two of the three home Tests against the Proteas, earlier this week. The third Test is set to get underway on November 24, next week.
