Group B Ranji Trophy: Kishan, Tiwary thwart Karnataka

At stumps on the third day, Jharkhand were 309 for six in 96 overs, still 268 behind at the Greater Noida Sports Complex ground.

Greater Noida: Ishan Kishan’s counter-attacking, unbeaten hundred kept Karnataka at bay as Jharkhand fought to stay alive in the Group B Ranji Trophy encounter, on Saturday.

At stumps on the third day, Jharkhand were 309 for six in 96 overs, still 268 behind at the Greater Noida Sports Complex ground. Replying to Karnataka’s massive 577/6 declared, Jharkhand, resuming at the overnight nine without loss were in trouble at 136 for four before Kishan (118 n.o., 148b, 13x4, 5x6) and his 72-run fourth wicket partnership with skipper Saurabh Tiwary (91, 163b, 6x4, 3x6) hauled them back.

However, the twin dismissals of Tiwary and Kaushal Singh (5) set them back again as they slipped to 215 for six before Kishan’s attacking methods in the company of a Shahbaz Nadeem (13 batting) fetched them 94 invaluable runs for the unbroken seventh wicket.

Karnataka had to miss the services of their skipper R Vinay Kumar, who suffered a calf injury on the second day and bowled just one over on the day.
