India vs Australia: Axar Patel ruled out with injury, Ravindra Jadeja set to replace
Chennai: Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named as a replacement for injured Axar Patel in the Team India squad for the ODI series against Australia, starting on Sunday.
Axar Patel on Friday suffered a left ankle sprain while playing football. The 23-year-old orthodox bowler did not take part in the nets session on Saturday.
Axar had a memorable outing at Sri Lanka, where he picked up six wickets at an economical rate of 3.85.
The BCCI confirmed Ravindra Jadeja's replacement.
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Ravindra Jadeja as the replacement for Axar Patel in the team for the first three ODIs in the five-match series against Australia starting tomorrow i.e. September 17, 2017 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai," the BCCI said.
"Axar sprained his left ankle during a practice session and has been advised rest. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his recovery," BCCI added.
Jadeja, meanwhile, last played an ODI against West Indies at the Caribbean back in July, and was rested for the ODI series and the one-off T20 match against Sri Lanka.
India will take on Australia in the first of the five ODIs here on Sunday. The ODIs, which concludes on October 1, will be followed by three T20s, with the first on October 7.
