Aamer Sohail cries foul play over Pakistan's run to ICC Champions Trophy final

Aamer Sohail was sceptical of Pakistan's run, suggesting that current skipper Sarfraz Ahmed should not bask in the glory.

Karachi: Former captain Aamer Sohail has alleged that an amount of foul play may be at work in Pakistan’s run to the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

Pakistan, who were not given much of a chance in the competition, have put together a run of three consecutive wins to propel themselves to the final of the prestigious tournament, where they face arch-rivals India.

However, Sohail was sceptical of Pakistan’s run, suggesting that current skipper Sarfraz Ahmed should not bask in the glory as these victories were not fairly earned.

“Sarfaraz needs to be told that he hasn’t done anything special at all as Pakistan was forced to win the games by someone,” Sohail said to Pakistani news channel Samaa TV.

“We all know what happens and what not, and I can’t tell you how they have won the games, I can’t name them,” he further said. “Sarfaraz should just play his cricket. We know everyone’s calibre and if you do well we will praise you and vice-versa.”

Pakistan had gotten a lot of plaudits from all quarters after their remarkable turnaround in the Champions Trophy.

After a heavy defeat at the hands of India, Sarfraz and co went on to defeat South Africa and Sri Lanka, to book their spot in the semifinals, where they met hosts and tournament favourites England, a match they won with relative ease.

One special praise even came from their arch-rivals’ skipper Virat Kohli, who said, "The turnaround has been magnificent. They've beaten sides that looked really strong against them."
