Virat Kohli on the verge of breaking another Sachin Tendulkar record
Mumbai: Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking another record – this time, it is one held by none other than Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
The India captain has been in tremendous form this season, scoring 1,206 runs from nine Tests in the ongoing home season.
With India’s four-Test series against Australia set to kick off next week in Pune, the series is being billed as a direct contest between two of the best batsmen of modern-day cricket, two players who are also the captains of their respective teams.
Australia captain Steve Smith currently leads the ICC Test batsmen’s rankings followed by Virat Kohli.
Kohli, who is already on 895 points, trails Steve Smith by 38 points. A good showing in the four-match series against Australia will certainly help Kohli’s cause in climbing to the top of the rankings. The India captain has never crossed the 900-point mark in his career.
Interestingly though, Kohli has already surpassed Rahul Dravid’s career-best of 892 points.
However, Kohli needs another three points to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s career high mark of 898 points.
The rate at which the India skipper is scoring this season, it seems quite probable that the 28-year-old will surge ahead of Sachin’s career-best in no time.
Earlier this year, Kohli had surpassed another Sachin Tendulkar record by scoring the most number of ODI centuries in successful run chases.
