Mumbai: During the on-going fifth and final Ashes Test, Joe Root scripted history by becoming the third youngest batsmen to score 7,000 run in the longest format of the game.

Root (28 years, 256 days) touched the milestone after former England captain Alaistair Cook (27 years, 346 days) and ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar (28 years, 193 days).

The current England skipper, who is playing his 86th Test match, also became the fourth quickest English batsmen (158 innings) and only 12th cricketer from his country to achieve the feat.

Except Root, Wally Hammond, Kevin Pietersen and Cook are the only batsman to have scored 7000 runs faster than Root.

Moreover, Root also crossed the Australia’s greatest Test batsman Don Bradman in the all-time Test run-scorer list. Sir Don Bradman finished his Test career with 6996 runs.
