Chennai: Australia opener Aaron Finch could miss the first ODI against India on Sunday after he aggravated his calf injury during a training session at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Finch who had already missed the tour match pulled out of the training session midway on Thursday to put ice on the sore calf muscle.
He first sustained the injury playing for Surrey in England six weeks ago.
Uncapped all-rounder Hilton Cartwright opened in Finch’s absence in the warm-up game, but was dismissed for a second-ball duck in Australia’s 103-run win. Cartwright opened in one-day cricket for Western Australia last summer, but the Aussies may choose to elevate Travis Head __ who scored a century as an opener against Pakistan in January __ to the top of the order.
