Mumbai: Jason Roy made a memorable debut for Delhi Daredevils as he slammed an unbeaten 91 off 53 balls to pull off a stunning last-ball victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL-11 at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday. The Englishman's thunderous knock, punctuated with six sixes and as many fours, helped Delhi overhaul Mumbai's total of 194 with seven wickets to spare.

Mumbai failed to capitalise on their blistering start — 84 runs in the powerplay —  and lost five wickets for 21 runs to end up with a total that proved to be below-par on a good batting surface. It was Mumbai third consecutive defeat.

Roy put on a 50-run stand with skipper Gautam Gambhir for the opening wicket. He made a big statement in the fifth over by scoring 21 runs including two big sixes off Hardik Pandya. After Gambhir's departure, Rishabh Pant chipped in with a 25-ball 47 and Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 27 to take Delhi home along with Roy.

Needing 11 in the last over, Roy smas-hed a boundary and a six off the first two deliveries of Musta-fizur Rahman. As the next three turned out to be dot balls, Roy hit the winning run off the last ball. Shreyas said Mumbai bowled some good slower ones at the death. “Even in the last over Jason found it difficult to pick. But we knew if we stayed till the end we would finish the game,” said Shreyas.
Delhi captain Gambhir said Roy is a class player. “We're a dangerous side if we keep going like that,” he added. Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma said Mumbai would learn from their mistakes and come back stronger.
