How Dhoni's instructions helped Chahal, Kuldeep vs Proteas, reveals this cricketer
Mumbai: Former India cricketer Atul Wassan has credited wicketkeeper batsman MS Dhoni, praising his efforts behind the stumps.
Dhoni has only scored 69 from five matches against South Africa so far, but has been very successful in stumping the batsmen.
"I think half of the wickets should go to Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He is just amazing behind the stumps. Before every ball was bowled, he knows what a batsman going to do. These guys should bow down and touch his feet. These guys not experienced and Dhoni was doing the homework for them. Dhoni should be credited for this," Atul Wassan said to NDTV.
Wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have aggregated 30 wickets between them so far, and the 50-year-old former cricketer was quick to praise the duo.
“I heard Dhoni saying 'Ye ab idhar niklega. Ye abb idhar marega'. And the same thing was happening. Chahal and Kuldeep were following Dhoni's instructions and those were working for India," he stated.
The former India captain has been criticised for his batting performance recently, but Wassan had a different opinion on this.
"If people can criticise Dhoni for not getting runs, they should probably look at this (wicketkeeping) factor also," he said.
The 4-1 series win over Aiden Markram-led South Africa side was India’s first ever ODI series win in the African nation. Earlier, Virat Kohli’s men had lost the Test series to the hosts 2-1.
The final match of the ODI series will be played in Centurion on Friday.
