Cape Town: AB de Villiers hit a series-winning century as South Africa came back from 0-2 down to clinch the one-day international contest 3-2 over England on Sunday.

South Africa skipper De Villiers made 101 not out, guiding his team out of trouble at 22-3 as the Proteas chased down England’s below par 236 with ease for a five-wicket win.

De Villiers and Hashim Amla (59) put South Africa back on track after their early troubles with a partnership of 125.

De Villiers got some big-hitting help from David Wiese at the end, with the all-rounder smashing two sixes into the crowd against spinner Adil Rashid in his 41 from 32 balls.

South Africa’s victory in the decider denied England a rare double on this tour after they won the Test series.

Earlier, England opener Alex Hales scored a scintillating hundred, 112, to ensure the visitors reached a respectable total of 236 in 45 overs.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl in the series-deciding one-day game against England at Newlands on Sunday.

SA captain de Villiers made the decision after a light rain shower earlier and with some cloud cover lingering over the ground. England selected an unchanged lineup following the fourth game.
