Family presence helps cricketers, says psychologist

When Rohit reached hundred as well as double-hundred he blew a kiss to his wife as she found it difficult to control her tears.

Mumbai: Rohit Sharma celebrated his second wedding anniversary in style by slamming his third ODI double hundred in Mohali and his wife Ritika Sajdeh was in the stands to witness the moment. Ritika looked anxious when Rohit was inching closer to the milestone.

When Rohit reached hundred as well as double-hundred he blew a kiss to his wife as she found it difficult to control her tears.

Former England cricketer Jeremy Snape, who is now a sport and business psychologist, believes that the presence of family members always helps the players. “I’d always support the players spending time with their families but getting clear rules in place is important. Every professional team has to decide how and when to integrate families into their match and touring schedule,” he said.

“Being in the media spotlight along with the Test of international cricket brings enormous challenge and if players are to have long and successful careers they need high levels of support too,” he added.

Rohit’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad was over the moon after his former pupil achieved the incredible feat. “Rohit is God of ODI cricket,” Lad said.
