Rahul Dravid in ICC panel

Kumble chairman, Shastri too makes it to cricket committee.

New Delhi: Former India captain Rahul Dravid was on Friday appointed to the International Cricket Council’s cricket committee, where his state and country compatriot Anil Kumble was reappointed chairman for a second term.

Dravid will be joined on the panel by ex-Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena.
Between them, Dravid and Jayawardena played 1,161 international matches from 1996 to 2015, and each has been appointed for a three-year term. They will attend their first meeting at Lord’s this month end.

For Dravid, it marks a next step in his engagement with the game he played with great distinction. Having coached the India A and U-19 teams, he is currently mentoring the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League’s ninth season after a similar stint with Rajasthan Royals till last year.

Dravid and former Australia off-spinner Tim May, have been elected by current Test captains as player representatives, replacing former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan.

Jayawardena has been appointed as a past player representative and takes over from former Australia captain Mark Taylor.

Meanwhile, former Kumble — ex-India captain and the country’s leading wicket-taker — who took over as chairman in 2012, will continue to head the group until 2018.

The panel is representative of all stakeholders in the modern game, including players, umpires and the media. It is empowered to make recommendations on cricket playing issues to the chief executives’ committee and, if the matter is concerns policy, the ICC board for approval.
